Evidence for Christian Faith,  God,  Space and the Universe

“The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.” (Psa 19:1b, NAS77)

I used to sit with my friends in high school as an unbeliever and join them in asking the more fascinating questions about our universe. How big is it? Where is the end of it? What is beyond the end of it? And though I was getting a taste of God’s design, I did not recognize it at the time.

The Bible tells us that it is the design of God that the universe, at any time in history, is there to declare the glory of God. The message of the whole Bible along with Psalm 19 is to let us know that however big the universe is, God is much greater than that. And the reality of Psalm 19 is the universe is proving to be just as unfathomable to a 21st century A.D. astronomer as it was to Adam and Eve.

The most amazing illustration of this is when the Hubble telescope was aimed at a location in the night sky that had previously seemed to be empty. And what they discovered was nothing less than mind boggling. They found countless galaxies going as far as the Hubble was able to resolve. The universe became instantaneously much bigger scientifically. Unfathomably bigger.

So Psalm 19 has proven to be true throughout time. Regardless of what anyone believes about God, one thing is clear; the universe is unfathomably big.
