Texas: Our Unrealized Dream

Deni And I bought some property in Texas in 2007. The property is 40 miles north of Houston in the Sam Houston National Forest. It is in a development of about 4500 acres and is very rural. We have 3.25 acres.

Our plan was to build on our property and retire in Texas. It was a really fun time because we had a new vision we were pressing toward. We made at least one trip a year and met a lot of our new neighbors by organizing summer picnics and maintaining An online message board for the community.

But alas when the housing bubble burst, we lost the equity in our home here in Seattle. Our plan was to sell and use the equity to build in Texas. Our in-laws bought the property next-door to us and we were going to live as neighbors. Well their plans also changed and they didn’t build. We couldn’t afford to build. So the plan went by the wayside and our dream was unrealized.

But we still own the property and who knows what might happen in the future. Here are some pictures from our many trips to Texas to visit our property in the neighborhood in the greater Houston area. Most of the pictures are of the property area, Sugarland where our in-laws live, Kemah and Galveston, two places that we visit on the Gulf every time we go.
